Controversy Erupts at NineOls Tournament Results Before Royal Ruling Settles Dispute and Week #7 Results Posted

NineOls Golf News Network (NGNN)

The NineOls Golf League found itself at the center of controversy this week following allegations of collusion and preferential treatment surrounding the Closest-to-the-Pin (CTP) competition on a par-3 hole during tournament play.

League members Tim and Matt formally challenged the results, raising concerns about the measurement used to determine the winning shot. Their allegations centered on fellow competitor Phil D’Amour, known throughout the league as “Phil America,” who was accused of reading the CTP marker in a manner favorable to Mr. Gregg.

As speculation spread throughout the league, Phil America launched a vigorous defense of his actions on “NineOls Social,” the emerging social media platform often described as a future rival to X and Truth Social. However, rather than directly addressing the allegations, D’Amour turned his attention to another league member, Mauro Buco, whose Italian heritage he notably questioned during the exchange.

In a series of posts, Mr. Buco was accused of multiple offenses, including alleged “Trophy Cuddling” and the more serious charge of “Putting from Too Far Away from the Green.” League observers were left puzzled by the sudden shift in focus, with many viewing the accusations as an attempt to divert attention from the ongoing CTP investigation.

The matter was ultimately brought before The King, who presided over the proceedings and ordered a definitive review of the evidence and reports from multiple eye witnesses. Following a detailed examination of approx 30 seconds, officials determined that the ball in question rested exactly 34.5 inches from the pin.

Based on those findings, both Phil America and Mr. Gregg were fully cleared of any wrongdoing. Mr. Gregg later said ” That’s what 34.5 Inches looks like boys!”  Phil America could not be reached for comment, although there were further rants on NineOls Social throughout the evening on non-league related topics.

The King also imposed sanctions on the original accusers, Tim and Matt, whose claims ultimately failed to withstand scrutiny. In a ruling widely viewed as both punitive and restorative, the pair were ordered to provide restitution to Mr. Gregg and Phil America in the form of one IPA each following Week #8 play. League legal experts described the penalty as “fair but refreshing,” while local bookmakers immediately established odds on whether the debt would be paid in full before last call.

The investigation did, however, yield consequences for Mr. Buco. After reviewing the evidence, The King found him guilty on both counts.

As part of the ruling, Mr. Buco was ordered to remain at least 10 feet away from the league trophy and was further prohibited from attempting putts originating more than 10 feet from the edge of any green.

With the verdict rendered and penalties imposed, league officials declared the matter resolved, bringing an end to one of the more colorful and contentious chapters in NineOls Golf League history.
